A long time in the making, this week sees the release of a special 7" celebrating alternative rock trailblazers Pylon. The first side consists of Deerhunter covering Pylon single "Cool" – which takes the title of the song very literally, with an extended interlude and Bradford Cox's multi-tracked vocals. The second side follows a similar attitude with Alexis Krauss of Sleigh Bells providing vocals to a rolling bassline and crashing percussion. Purchasers of the single on the DFA Webstore and digitally will get a bonus take on Yo-Yo – The Calvinist Unsaved Mix, which makes things even weirder, with hissing static and distorted vocals. Listen to the entire release by clicking the artwork above. If you're not familiar with the original versions of the tracks, you can also listen to free streams of both DFA-reissued Pylon albums on dfarecords.com. Check the free download section below to snag a – well – free download – of the track "Beep" from the album "Chomp More". Finally – since you're reading this, we know you're a subscriber to our DFA News Flashes – but run over to the DFA Facebook to enter to win one of 4 Pylon prize packs, including CD copies of both of their albums with the new 7". Whew!
